CV Tips
The consultants at Opus are happy to provide you with any of the following additional services to help you take best step forward in your career.
1st Sheet - A snapshot of your skills and career
This should summarise your key work experience and skills, allowing the reader a quick insight into what you have to offer. It is good to understand that anyone looking at your CV may be looking at many others that day and would appreciate most of the work being done for them and not having to hunt around through pages of waffle.
Work History
Provide this in chronological order with all start and leave dates listed, along with your position and key responsibilities. Also list the key projects on which you worked, but keep it limited to the type of project, size, cost and stages on which you worked. If you have had many positions it is a good idea to list if contract or permanent positions, and also why you decided to leave each post.
CAD Skills
Make sure it is easy for the reader to understand which CAD systems you have used, and your level of proficiency in each.
Education
University dates, names, qualifications and grades are essential. List any additional courses, and only list those seminars and extra curricular courses which are relevant to the current direction of your career.
Personal Statements
This is not necessary but if you want to, make sure to keep it an honest and simple introduction to yourself, avoid pretentious waffle but do make it individual and interesting. If this is not possible then leave it out completely as you will have more space for important areas.
Portfolio
This should be an example of some of your major project involvement and also document your main areas of ability in drawing, both CAD work and free hand, if applicable. It is not a history of everything you have ever done as that can bore whomever is looking through it. Everything in the portfolio must be in there for a reason, therefore show examples of projects from relevant sectors, examples of your various drawing skills and the stages on which you have experience. Design and more technical areas should be selected to show your all round ability, however do target the portfolio to the role for which you are applying. When sending portfolios by email, please keep them as individual pdf's or jpegs, and each email should be 6 megs or LESS.
REFER A FRIEND
Refer a friend or colleague anonymously and if we place them in a permanent job you will receive a cash reward!
